Rajasthan is known for its rich animal wealth in terms of both quality and quantity. The livestock sector plays a very important role in the economy of the state and its people, as the state government earns more than 15% or its revenue from this sector. The rural masses, especially the economically weaker section, derive their livelihood from the animals. Keeping in view the importance of this sector, the state as well as the central governments is implementing many developmental programmes to progressively enhance the quality of animals, their production and reproduction to make the rural masses, especially the weaker section, self-reliant. To cater the needs of livestock sector, a quite large number of competent veterinary professionals equipped with the modern technologies would be consistently required.
The state government, due to server resource crunch, cannot bear the burden of opening the additional veterinary colleges as per the man power need accordingly it took an initiative to privatize the veterinary education and made the VCI regulation mandatory for imparting veterinary education in the state. M.B.Health & Hygiene Nursing Shikshan Sansthan, Dungarpur, accepted the challenge and decided to open a veterinary college in the Dungarpur district of Rajasthan, keeping in view the need of the state in general and of that area in particular.
The members of Society approached the Government of Rajasthan for seeking its permission to open the proposed veterinary college. The college is affiliated with the Rajasthan University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences (RAJUVAS), Bikaner recognized by Veterinary Council of India, Ministry of Agriculture, Govt. of India. College follows coursecurriculum as per Minimum Standard of Veterinary Education-2016 prescribed by the Veterinary Council of India (VCI) New Delhi, with emphasis on disease of bovines including sheep & goats, camel, equines, poultry and companion animals to meet specific requirements of the state. College building is available for teaching, research and extension education with most modern clinical, para-clinical and production departments.
